Recruiter habits
What German recruiters scan first on LinkedIn
German recruiters working through an Auftrag rarely read a LinkedIn profile top to bottom. They open the preview, check the headline against the Stellenbeschreibung, glance at location and languages, then decide whether the About section is worth a minute.
The preview card decides more than you think
Your name, headline, and current title appear before anyone clicks. If the headline only repeats “Project Manager” without industry or domain, you look interchangeable. Candidates who add a concrete field — logistics, MedTech procurement, retail operations — give the recruiter a reason to open the full profile.
Location and language signals
For roles based in Germany, recruiters look for a credible location string and language notes early. A profile that never mentions German, even at B2, loses ground for client-facing roles even when the CV later clarifies fluency.
Experience order and company cues
The first two roles carry the weight. Company names that signal Betriebsgröße and sector help; unexplained freelance stretches without outcomes do not. You do not need to write a novel — one line on scope and result is enough for a screening pass.
What to do this week
Rewrite your headline with role + field + geography. Open your About section with the roles you want next, not a chronological autobiography. Then ask a colleague in Germany to read only the top third of your profile and say whether they would forward it to a hiring manager.
