Presentation
Photo and banner choices that read as credible in Germany
Your photo is not decoration. On both LinkedIn and XING it is part of the trust check before a recruiter sends a Nachricht.
Photo basics that still fail
Cropped holiday shots, group photos with other faces half-visible, and heavy filters reduce response rates in conservative industries. A clear head-and-shoulders image with even light, neutral background, and attire matching your target roles is enough. You do not need a studio package — you do need a recent image that looks like you will on day one.
Banner restraint
Busy banners with slogan overlays compete with your headline. A simple workplace or city texture works; avoid stock images of handshakes and glowing globes. On XING, where layouts differ, check how the banner crops on mobile before you publish.
Consistency across networks
Using wildly different photos on LinkedIn and XING makes recruiters pause. One primary portrait on both networks is safer when you are in an active search.
When we advise a reshoot
During audits we flag photos that feel older than five years, show a previous uniform that contradicts the new field, or hide the face in shadow. A €50 portrait session often returns more recruiter replies than another keyword tweak.
