Why XING still matters for many German searches

LinkedIn dominates global conversations about professional networks. Inside Germany, many Personalvermittler and in-house recruiters still open XING first for certain industries, regions, and mid-market employers.

Where XING retains weight

Mittelstand employers, regional searches outside the largest metro hubs, and roles where German-language presentation is non-negotiable often surface candidates on XING. If your XING profile is a neglected mirror of an old CV while LinkedIn is polished, you present two different people.

Keep the stories aligned

Headlines can differ slightly by character limits, but the career arc should match. A promotion date that disagrees between networks is a quiet red flag. Treat Über mich and the LinkedIn About as siblings: same facts, tone adjusted for each audience.

Practical split

Use LinkedIn when your target employers hire internationally or post roles in English. Keep XING current when your search leans German-language, regional, or traditional industries. In our consultations we rewrite both unless you have a documented reason to maintain only one.

A short test

Search your target job title on XING with your city. Note which profiles appear active — recent posts, complete sections, clear photos. That is the bar recruiters silently compare you against.
