Career narrative
Framing a career change for German hiring managers
Career changes are common. On German profiles they often look accidental because the About section still celebrates the old path while the headline announces the new one.
Lead with the destination
Open with the roles you are pursuing and the proof you already hold — regulated training, project ownership, client portfolio size — before narrating why you left the previous field. Recruiters hire for the next role, not your autobiography.
Translate, do not hide
If you moved from teaching into learning and development, name the overlapping skills in the vocabulary of the new field: curriculum design becomes Lernpfadgestaltung, classroom management becomes stakeholder facilitation. Invented titles help no one; accurate translation does.
Gaps and study periods
A Weiterbildung or parental leave belongs in the timeline with plain wording. Trying to hide months usually fails once a recruiter cross-checks XING and LinkedIn. Clarity reads as reliability.
Profile work before applications
Updating both networks before you send the next Bewerbung prevents the awkward moment when a recruiter opens your profile and finds a different story than your letter. That alignment is a core part of our profile rewrite engagements.
